Faceted navigation

What is faceted navigation?

Faceted navigation, or faceted search or faceting, is a type of website navigation found on category and archive pages of sites that deal with many listings. It allows for a more organized and tailored browsing experience by allowing the user to browse through site content based on criteria such as item types, categories, brands, colours, sizes, and other attributes.

This form of navigation usually consists of multiple filters (or “facets”) that can be adjusted by the user to narrow down the scope of their search. By doing so, users can find more relevant results in less time. Additionally, faceted navigation can be used to explore further related items based on the filters selected by the user. For example, a user looking for a pair of shoes may filter the results by shoe brand and colour. With this particular selection, they would be presented with all available shoes from their chosen brand in their desired colour.
