What is a Featured Snippet?

A Featured Snippet is a special block that appears above the organic search results (SERP) on Google when entering certain queries. It generally contains a summary of an answer to an asked question in the form of a paragraph, list, table, or video.

The snippet includes the page title, link to its origin webpage, URL, and publication date. Featured Snippets provide quick and comprehensive answers to user queries, making it easier for them to find what they’re looking for faster. They can be very helpful when searching for product reviews, how-to guides, definitions, and biographies, among many other topics.

These snippets often come from authoritative websites like Wikipedia or other reliable sources verified by Google. Currently, Google is experimenting with new, AI-powered featured snippets, and Search Engine Results Page looks to be evolving continuously. On the last I/O 2023, Google revealed new features of the search. Search is getting to be more conversational, with snippets changing contextually.
